May 13, 2025 – bitol.io — The Bitol project, an open initiative hosted by the Linux Foundation to drive standardization around data contracts and data products, is proud to announce the appointment of two new members to its Technical Steering Committee (TSC): Andrea Gioia and Diego Carvallo.

New TSC Members

New TSC Members

The TSC is the governing body responsible for the technical direction of Bitol’s open standards, including the Open Data Contract Standard (ODCS) and the evolving Open Data Product Standard (ODPS). Chaired by Jean-Georges Perrin, the committee is composed of international leaders in data engineering and architecture, working together to ensure the interoperability, quality, and adoption of Bitol standards across industries.

New Members Joining the TSC

Andrea Gioia is Partner and CTO at Quantyca, and co-founder of Blindata.io, a data governance SaaS platform. With over 20 years of experience leading data initiatives across banking, utilities, retail, and industry sectors, Andrea is a respected voice in the European data community. He is the lead organizer of the Data Engineering Italian Meetup and a driving force behind the Open Data Mesh Initiative. Andrea has also authored multiple specifications and is the author of the forthcoming book Managing Data as a Product (October 2024).

“In recent years, I’ve helped define several data-related specifications, including DPDS, DPROD, DatastoreAPI, and SAS,” said Andrea Gioia. “Now, I’m happy to join the TSC at Bitol, where I’ll contribute to driving the evolution of ODCS, promoting harmonization across data specifications, and fostering a more interoperable data ecosystem that emphasizes value creation over tool integration.”

Diego Carvallo is the co-founder and CTO of Pickle, a company transforming healthcare recruitment through data and AI. Formerly an enterprise data architect for FTSE100 firms, Diego brings a unique combination of technical depth and clear communication, having started his academic journey in nuclear engineering. Diego is committed to advancing open standards that make data more accessible and impactful across all levels of an organization.

“I’m excited to join the Technical Steering Committee for ODCS at Bitol because of its potential to make data contracts accessible to both technical and non-technical users,” said Diego Carvallo. “Data contracts are a cornerstone for building trust and clarity around data, and I’m eager to contribute by defining and enhancing key features, as well as creating resources that simplify adoption.”

Full TSC Membership

The current Technical Steering Committee now includes: Andrea Gioia, Andrew Jones, Andy Petrella, Atanas Iliev, Christian Foyer, Dirk Van de Poel, Gene Stakhov, Jean-Georges Perrin (Chair), Jochen Christ, Manuel Destouesse, Martin Meermeyer, Peter Flook, Simon Harrer, and Diego Carvallo.

Bitol would like to thank its previous TSC members: Dieter Wachters, Bart Vandekerckhove, Tom Baeyens, Georges Kopp, Sandro Pugliese, and Todd Nemanich, for their invaluable contributions to establishing the foundation of the initiative.

About ODCS and ODPS

The Open Data Contract Standard (ODCS) provides a structured, machine-readable way to define and operationalize agreements between data producers and consumers. It plays a critical role in enabling data governance, quality, automation, and trust across modern data platforms.

Open Data Product Standard (ODPS) extends to data products and is currently a work-in-progress.
